 Team from Mação takes part in a worldwide discovery of prehistoric DNA in rock art

A Portuguese team took part in the world's first discovery of ancient human DNA preserved in prehistoric cave walls, with the Escoural Cave in Montemor-o-Novo providing some of the most important samples for the study published this week in the scientific journal Nature Communications.

The work carried out by members of the research team of ITM - Institute of Earth and Memory and Politécnico de Tomar continues to gain international prominence! The BBC and the British newspaper The Guardian highlighted an important discovery related to Paleolithic rock art in the United Kingdom, resulting from the work developed within the scope of the FIRST-ART project, which brings together researchers from various countries dedicated to the study of humanity's earliest artistic manifestations.
